Draupadi Murmu Early Life and Education

Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 in a Santhal tribal family of Uparbara village, Mayurganj district, Odisha. Draupadi Murmu was the only girl studying at that time from her village to Bhubaneshwar. Studied in tribal residential school from 1969 to 1973 and after that enrolled in Rama Devi Women’s College, Bhubaneswar for graduation.

Draupadi Murmu’s Career Beginning

Draupadi Murmu started her career in 1979 as a Junior Assistant in the Department of Irrigation and Power, Government of Orissa. After that she was a teacher at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Center Rai Rangpur from 1994 to 1997. Murmu, who started her career as a teacher, has also been a councilor in 1997, then from 2000 to 2004, Draupadi Murmu handled the Transport and Commerce Department as Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Government of Odisha. She was Minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Resource Development from 6 August 2002 to 16 May 2004. Draupadi Murmu has been a BJP MLA from Rairangpur seat twice and a minister once. Then from 2006 to 2009, she was the President of the Scheduled Tribes Morcha of the Orissa BJP. From 6 March 2000 to 6 August 2002, she was Minister of State with independent charge from the Department of Commerce and Transport. Then from the year 2015 to May 18, 2020, she was the first woman tribal governor of Jharkhand. Murmu is the first woman tribal leader of Odisha, who was made the governor and now (currently 2022) the President of India.
