Sam Manekshaw Birth and Early Life

Sam Manekshaw was born on 13 April 1914 in Amritsar, Punjab in a Persian family. His family had already moved to Punjab from Valsad, a city in Gujarat. Sam Bahadur spent his early life in Amritsar. He grew up in Amritsar.

Sam Manekshaw was a resident of Amritsar, Punjab. Sam Manekshaw’s father was a doctor. (Father – Mother’s Name Not Known)  Sam Manekshaw had five brothers, and was the youngest of the five. When his brother had gone to study in London, Sam Bahadur had also started thinking of going to London and becoming a doctor after studying. But this could not happen. His father told him that you are still young. Because of this he could not go. In 1937, he had gone to Lahore in a ceremony, where Sam befriended Silo Bode. And after 2 years Sam Manekshaw and Silo Bode tied the knot. Both have  Was married on 22 April 1939. 

Education of Sam Manekshaw

Sam Manekshaw completed his early education in Amritsar, Punjab. After the completion of his schooling, Sam Manekshaw went to Nainital for his college studies. He did his degree from Sherwood College, Nainital. Although he dreamed of becoming a doctor in his childhood, but  He changed his decision and decided to take the entrance examination from Dehradun to Indian Military Academy, and he also passed in this examination. Then his life was spent in the army.

Sam Manekshaw passed the entrance examination in the Indian Military Academy from Dehradun. And on 1 October 1932, joining the Indian Military Academy was done from Dehradun. And then on 4 February 1934, Sam was selected as a second lieutenant in the British Indian Army. And then from this time the military life of Sam Bahadur Manekshaw had begun.

 After joining the British Army, Sam spent his military life for a few years. During this time, he was also in war with Pakistan 3 times and was also in war with China once. He became an eyewitness of these wars. Sam has held many important positions throughout his military life, and has handled the work of those positions very well. On 7 June 1969, Sam Manekshaw was appointed as the 8th Chief of Army Staff of India. And at the same time, Sam Manekshaw took command of the Indian Army in the 1971 war with Pakistan. After victory in this war, Sam Manekshaw was declared the first Field Marshal of India. He held a number of positions, including – first, 2nd Battalion and then “The Royal Scot”  And after that Sam was given an opportunity to cooperate in the 4th Battalion and then the 12th Frontier Force. The military life of Sam Manekshaw was not easy. He had done many good and big things in his military life. His name is still very famous in the army. After India’s Independence 

Sam Manekshaw had given his support in the work related to the partition after independence, and played his important role in all the planning and governance. Sam Manekshaw had given a good introduction to his war skills even during the campaign of Jammu and Kashmir from 1947 to 1948. He was then made Commandant of the Infantry School in Mhow, after being led by an infantry bgrade, and Sam Manekshaw became the 8th Colonel of the Gorkha Rifles and the 61st Colonel of the Cavalry Went.
