Syed Abdul Rahim was born on 17 August 1909 in Hyderabad, India. He had lived in Hyderabad since birth. Syed Abdul Rahim was very fond of playing football since childhood.

Syed Abdul Rahim Football Career

Syed Abdul Rahim started his football career from college itself. But he started playing football from his school time. Initially Syed Abdul Rahim was in the football team of his college Osmania University, and the team name was “eleven hunters”. The current and former students of the college were included in this team. Syed Abdul Rahim represented the team. 

He also worked as a sports teacher in the school. But at the same time he did not stop playing football. He was counted among the great football players of Hyderabad from 1920 to early 1940, as he was the best player at that time.

Syed Abdul Rahim started his football career as Hyderabad coach from 1943 to 1963. He was a good coach. Ash Gold was organized in Bangalore. Rahim had taken his team to this competition. HCP (Halwany Consumer Products) came into prominence when his team won the final against the Royal Air Force. He defeated Mohun Bagan in the Durand Cup of 1950, and due to the good coaching of Rahim, his HCP  The team won five consecutive Rovers Cups. Which remains such a record even today. 

Indian National Football Team Manager

In 1950, Syed Abdul Rahim was selected to be the manager of the Indian national football team, and then after becoming the coach, Syed Rahim gave a new direction to his team (in 1948) and gave more youth to his team. Made a part of the team.  It was because of Syed Abdul that the Indian football team won the gold 1-0 against the Iran team. And likewise his team had won many matches too. 

Sayed’s last contribution to the team

Winning the gold medal for the Indian team in the 1962 Asian Games was very difficult.  Coach Syed Abdul Rahim was also suffering from cancer at this time. Rahim told his team that “I want a gift from you guys tomorrow – gold medal”. The Indian team was encouraged by the inspirational words of his coach, and player Jarnail Singh played football even after being injured and the Indian team won the gold medal by defeating the South Korean team. 

Death of Syed Abdul Rahim

Syed Abdul Rahim died on 11 June 1963 in Hyderabad. He had died due to cancer. Rahim was associated with this game till his last breath. The time of Syed Abdul Rahim’s coaching (from 1945 to 1965) is considered the golden age of Hyderabad football and Indian football.
