On 16 August 1971, the Chief of the Pakistani Army “Amir Abdullah Khan” along with his 93 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army. With this Bangladesh became independent, and this war was over. This was the largest military surrender after the Second World War. This war is also known as Battle of Garibpur.

Brig Balram Singh Mehta was commissioned 43 Cavalry on 15 June 1966. He was from an illustrious military family. In 1984, he formed the 13th Armored Regiment. Balram Singh Mehta joined the College of Combat in 1990 as Higher Command 18 participated in. He has the distinction of having served in command assignments with the three Strike Corps as well as on the staff of the Mountain and Infantry Divisions, in addition to deputation with the Cabinet Secretariat.
